UB

Ulan Bator, or UB as the local call it, can probably best be described as a post soviet city working toward reconstruction. The city is undergoing massive growth and development while still living with an outdated infrastructure. Imagine three lanes of vehicles on a two lane road, huge pot holes, open manhole covers and no traffic signals, welcome to UB! Aside from its apparent blemishes the city still has quite a bit to offer. The other day we spent the morning at Gandan Khiid, the largest Buddhist Monastery in UB. Later in the day we checked out a traditional Mongolian cultural performance complete with throat singers, musicians, dancers and contortionists. We finished up the day with a quick trip to the pub to meet with Andy from Fish Mongolia. We've now been traveling for over 7 days and we are all itching to get on the water. Our bags are packed, our flies are tied and today we will embark on a 12 hour trip into the Mongolian countryside.
