AEG Media is Set to Release Their Third Annual Full Length Feature Film
Portland, OR (October 29, 2007) – Arriving home after 62 days of high-impact action adventure, AEG Media’s Fish Bums prepare to burst onto the silver screen armed with high-energy footage of their journey into the heart of rustic Mongolia in search of sacred monster taimen. This years epic film, Fish Bum (FB) I, Mongolia: An AEG Adventure Film, is the first volume in a new series by the AEG Fish Bums; with its highly anticipated release coinciding with the industry supported 2008 Fly Fishing Film Tour, a spectacular event not to be missed. AEG Media’s third annual feature film is packed with extraordinary footage of never before seen river systems, covering a vast array of unexplored territory and gigantic fish. The AEG Fish Bums: Chris Owens, Thad Robison, Justin Crump and Brian Jill, embark on a mission to wrestle out of clear blue waters, Mongolia’s most revered ancient species: the taimen.
Capturing taimen, as FB I will show, proves to be difficult. They use everything from lenok, a fish resembling a brown trout, to yak-haired flies in an attempt to lure these monster fish to a fly line, without much success, until they later discover the secret during the second half of the film.
There are still many obstacles to overcome during the transition. Unstable terrain and locations that even a GPS tracker couldn’t find add to the challenge.
“We’ve explored hundreds of kilometers of unexplored headwaters and tributaries looking for viable taimen populations. We’ve found a few remote taimen strongholds where accessibility to these sections of rivers is more than difficult to reach. Outside of these sacred stretches of river, over-harvesting by local villages has taken an immediate toll on these fish,” says Owens
The taimen, is a species of fish in the salmon family that can age up to 55 years and grow to lengths of 78 or more inches, weighing in as much as 200 pounds. They have been known to attack animals the size of ducks or prairie dogs. With their aggressive nature, it’s hard to believe these phenomenal predators are slowly diminishing.
Their immediate threats are their own inability to reach sexual maturity at an early age and are being overly fished before they are able to reproduce. Their environment is also at risk with local mining operations being conducted. The AEG Fish Bums intend to bring awareness of the growing problem through the release of FB I and the Fly Fishing Film Tour.
The second annual Fly Fishing Film Tour is made possible through AEG Media and by an industry driven concern for fly-fishing. With official and presenting sponsors of the film tour this world-class event will hit over 70 U.S. cities and screen to an estimated 25,000 viewers.
